Horizon Scanning in the Age of AI — N. American Edition
Know Where Your Judgment Ends and the Tool's Begins
A 2-day (7 hours total) live online workshop that rethinks horizon scanning for an era when AI is both the subject and the tool. Learn to scan for emerging change — and build a clear, deliberate answer to where AI genuinely helps and where your own judgment has to lead.
This isn't a course about AI. It's a course about scanning that takes AI seriously — as a force reshaping the landscape you're scanning, and as a capability that changes how you scan it.
What this is — and isn't. This isn't a demonstration of how we use AI, and we won't be handing over a prompt library. It's also not a seminar on how AI will change the future of work. It's a working session that goes back to the start: what makes scanning good in the first place, where human judgment is genuinely strong, where AI genuinely helps, and how to rebuild your scanning workflow with those decisions made deliberately rather than by default. You'll leave knowing how to specify what the tool should do in your process — not just how to operate one.
Limited to 20 participants to ensure personalized guidance and peer learning.

Why This Workshop, Why Now
Every organization is grappling with AI — but few have asked a harder question first: where does your own judgment end, and the tool's begin, and do you actually know? Meanwhile geopolitical realignment, climate pressures, and economic transformation are accelerating faster than traditional scanning methods can track.
This workshop opens by putting that question to the test — a live exercise most participants find more revealing than they expect. From there, you'll build the fundamentals, run a live human-vs-AI comparison on real signals, and spend Day 2 turning your own material into a scanning system that specifies, deliberately, where the human/tool line sits for your organization.
This is a new format, developed from nearly two decades running scanning practice for organizations worldwide — built specifically around the human/AI judgment question rather than treating AI as an add-on or a turbo button.

Workshop Elements
This workshop is built around two core challenges. In Day 1, you'll test your own scanning instincts, build the fundamentals, and work with real signals of emerging change — collecting, evaluating, and making sense of them using both human judgment and AI-assisted methods. You'll see firsthand where AI adds genuine value to scanning and where it falls short.
In Day 2, you'll shift from doing the work to designing the system. Using your own material from an overnight scanning assignment, you'll build a scanning and sensemaking workflow you can take back to your organization — one that specifies, deliberately, where AI belongs and where it doesn't.
What You'll Leave With
- A clear, tested sense of where your own judgment should lead and where AI genuinely helps
- The ability to distinguish meaningful patterns from noise — with and without AI
- Strategies, frameworks, filters and prompt approaches that drive effective scanning and sensemaking
- A scanning workflow built around your own domain, ready to take back to your organization
What's Included

- Pre-workshop brief: fundamentals covered ahead of Day 1, so live time is spent applying, not lecturing
